Car Insurance for Females vs. Males

Car insurance rates are very carefully calculated. Companies take several factors into account when they determine your rate. They look at your age, gender, and past driving record. If you are a new driver, they only have your age and gender to look at because you haven’t had a change to make a good driving record yet.

Males will usually pay more than females.

It’s a simple fact. Males under the age of 25 pay the highest insurance rates because insurance companies know that they have the greatest risk of getting into an accident. They are both young and males. If you are a male under the age of 25, have you ever been in an accident? Or, if you are a male over 25, how many accidents did you have when you were under 25?

It might not seem fair, especially for the safe driving males in that category who have not tickets and have been in no accidents. It’s not completely fair, but few things in life are. Just think of it as a goal to work hard at safe driving to bring down your rates.

Females usually have a lower rate than males. This is because more males have gotten into accidents than females. The thing is, you can’t expect this fact alone to get you a low rate. Or at least, if you are a new female driver, you could start out with a low rate, but it’s up to you to keep it that way.

If you are a reckless driver, get into many accidents, and have many tickets that you continue to get, your rate will go up. It’s not so much a punishment as it is a way for your insurance company to keep from losing money. If they charge you too little and you keep getting into accidents, they will have to keep paying. That’s why they will charge you more.

Whether you’re a male or female, 16 years old or 46 years old, the best way to lower your rate is to practice safe and defensive driving. Take defensive driving courses to get discounts and earn other discounts and you can significantly decrease your rate over time.
