Car Insurance for Teenagers
You are either a parent who has a teen that is reaching driving age and you are worried about your rates going up, or you are a teen reaching driving age and your parents are making you get your own insurance. Whoever you are, you can lessen the burden of increased rates.
Parents of Young Drivers
One very simple way to keep your teen from increasing your insurance bill every month is to have them get their own. If they are old enough to drive, they should be old enough to get a job and their own insurance. Even if you don’t have them get their own insurance, you can still put them on your policy and have them pay you for it. This way, you could even have them pay for half to still give them the responsibility and not all the burden.
If you have them pay for it through your policy, just subtract how much it goes up from your preexisting payments to get how much they owe you. Having them pay for their own insurance helps you save a buck and instills responsibility in them. You can’t pay all their bills for the rest of their life, or at least you shouldn’t, so why start now?
Teens can Cut Back Insurance Expense
As a teenager and young driver, insurance will probably cost a bit more than what your parents pay. You are a new driver and pose a much greater risk than they do because of your inexperience. There are several ways you can cut down on the expense.
First, be careful in what car you choose. If you drive a brand new sports car, your rate will be much higher than an older car. Insurance rates are dependent on the expense and safety of the car, so take advantage of this and buy a safer, older car.
You can get rate discounts with good grades. Some insurance companies will give you a discount if you maintain a B or higher average. Make sure you ask about this so you don’t miss out.
Finally, be a safe driver. The longer your drive safely, the more your rate will decrease. For every day that you drive safe and don’t get into an accident, you are proving that you will continue to drive safely in the future. Obey the speed limit and all traffic laws to save money on your plan and save lives with no accidents. Always put safety first!
